The Story of Medicines

The Story of Medicines at the Pharmaceutical Sciences building at UBC is the only exhibit of its kind at any Pharmacy school in North America. Located throughout the building’s first and mezzanine floors, it is a free, permanent exhibit that showcases the essential contribution of Pharmacy and the Pharmaceutical Sciences to human health.

The exhibit helps visitors better understand and appreciate the Pharmacy profession, drug development process, and how drugs interact with the body (pharmacokinetics). Interactive, touch screen technology and historical pharmacy artifacts help answer many common questions about the profession—among the general public, as well as students interested in health science careers.

A digital Alumni Yearbook serves as a searchable database of the Faculty’s 5,000+ alumni since its first Class of 1949, with graduation photos and optional advanced profiles that alumni can submit.

Alumni, community members and school groups are encouraged to visit and explore The Story of Medicines, which offers a Guided Tour Program upon request. The exhibit is open from 8AM to 6PM, Monday through Friday.

The Story of Medicines is the education and community outreach arm of a larger endeavour at the Faculty: The Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare is a platform for dialogue and research on economic principles of healthcare sustainability, with a focus on the role of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals in affecting change.

Industry partners that have made The Story of Medicines and The Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare possible are: Amgen Canada Inc., AstraZeneca Canada Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Inc., Eli Lilly Canada Inc., GlaxoSmithKline Inc., Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd., LifeScan Canada Ltd., Lundbeck Canada Inc., Merck Canada Inc., Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc., and Pfizer Canada Inc.
