***Matching gift opportunity until April 15***
Dr. Peter Lusztig was the dean of the Sauder School of Business (then the UBC Faculty of Commerce), from 1977 until 1991. A graduate of UBC in 1954, Peter joined the faculty as a professor in 1965, becoming chair of the finance division in 1968, before being named dean nine years later. During his tenure, he helped transform the faculty into one of the best business schools in Canada. In tribute to his many contributions to the Sauder School, we have created the Peter Lusztig PhD Program in Finance, and you can support the program today.
Under Peter’s leadership, UBC also joined the ranks of the top research business schools in the world. He was instrumental in creating the Portfolio Management Foundation program, which provides undergraduate students with real capital markets experience; he assisted Shanghai Jiao Tong University in launching business courses alongside their engineering curriculum; and he worked to develop an internationally recognized PhD program.
The Peter Lusztig PhD Program in Finance will acknowledge Peter’s long career in the Finance Division. Gifts made in honour of Peter’s legacy at UBC will support the following:
- Increased fellowship funding and additional spaces for finance PhD students;
- A travel fund to support students who present their research at national and international conferences; and
- A research fund to ensure that finance PhD students have access to databases to support their dissertation research.
Your support for the Peter Lusztig PhD Program in Finance will ensure that Peter’s visionary hard work lives on through the efforts of UBC’s finance PhD students, our future academic leaders. Please make a donation to the program and join the Sauder School in continuing, in Peter’s name, the work he began in earnest more than thirty years ago.
To honour Peter Lusztig’s impact and commitment to UBC, the Sauder School will match all new donations to the Peter Lusztig PhD in Finance, dollar for dollar up to $500,000, so your gift will have double the impact. The offer is only available until April 15 so please act now and support a new generation of finance students.
