When reflecting upon your experiences in the Cunningham Building at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC, do you often think of the one professor who truly was always there for the graduate students, always, even in sickness? Then you are a McNeillian who had the privilege of being supervised by Dr. John McNeill. Through his support and mentorship, Dr. McNeill inspired the lives and early careers of 164 graduate students.
Dean Emeritus John McNeill joined the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1971 and, in 2015, an annual mentorship award was established by Dr. Subodh Verma MSc(Pharm)’93, PhD(Pharm)’97 in his honour. This flagship award recognizes faculty members at any stage in their academic career, in any of UBC’s health-related disciplines , who have formally been identified as mentors and who exemplify a deep commitment to fostering the professional and personal development of faculty colleagues, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows, in the early stages of their academic career.
Please consider making a donation to the John McNeill Excellence in Health Research Mentorship Award. Your gift will not only honour Dr. McNeill, but will also ensure that deserving faculty will be recognized for their outstanding mentorship in health research which is critical to the future success of graduate students and the reputation of UBC.
