The Sweet Student Fund

UBC Dentistry Sweet Student Fund

UBC Dentistry is honoured to work with Dr. David Sweet, O.C. and his friends, colleagues and long-time associates to establish the Sweet Student Fund.

The essence of this fund is to support UBC Dentistry students who face personal hardship during their academic studies. Unfortunately, over the years a number of dental students have experienced life-threatening medical challenges, personal hardships and grief that have compromised their ability to pay their education costs.

The Sweet Student Fund will be available to UBC dental students in crisis to help to alleviate unforeseen financial emergencies.

The spirit of the Sweet Student Fund reflects the compassion and commitment of Dr. David Sweet, O.C. whose role as Associate Dean of Students generated a new level of support and success to enhance the student experience at UBC Dentistry.

Dr. Sweet’s far-reaching career and accomplishments are exceptional. He has been described as a national treasure. From the inception of the BOLD laboratory and his world-renowned leadership in forensic odontology to his great contribution to assist families through forensic casework, he has excelled. Dr. Sweet has received numerous national and international appointments and accolades including investiture as an Officer of the Order of Canada, both Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. honoured member award, and honorary membership in the British Columbia Dental Association and the Canadian Dental Association. Thus, this fund will further honour his achievements and these significant contributions to his fellow citizens, to communities and to the country.

When you commit to helping to establish the Sweet Student Fund at UBC Dentistry, you will honour the accomplishments and contributions of Dr. David Sweet, O.C. and provide needed resources and assistance to dental students challenged with unforeseen adversity and need—something that is very close to Dr. Sweet’s heart.
