“I was lucky enough to be one of the first students to receive support through the Blue & Gold Bursary. It meant the world to me.”
Dominica Patterson is a fourth year undergraduate student in international relations. Receiving the Blue & Gold Bursary helped her make the first steps into her career—and into her dream of making a difference in the world.
With the help of donors, instead of spending reading break picking up extra shifts to try and keep afloat financially, she was able attend a conference attended by academics and activists in New York. She made connections at the United Nations, where she hopes to do an internship after graduating. None of these incredible opportunities would have been possible without the bursary.
“As a student, finding the balance between earning a living and doing well academically is difficult,” Dominica says. “You always feel like you’re making a choice between working extra shifts and getting a really good grade. I was lucky to receive the bursary. But I know many students are struggling with the same balance, and they need your help. Your support would mean the world to them.”
There are many other talented students like Dominica at UBC who still need your help to fulfil their potential. Will you make a gift to help them make a difference in the world?
The Blue & Gold Bursary was created as part of the Blue & Gold Campaign, which was launched by UBC’s president, Professor Santa Ono, in November 2017. Please make a donation today. Your support will help students push for their dreams, without financial worries holding them back.
