About This Project

The Sandy Silver Volleyball Award was established in September 2000 in honour of Sandy Silver. Sandy Silver is a former UBC Women’s Volleyball coach (1979-1983) and long serving Canada West Volleyball Convenor (1992-2016). She also served as assistant coach to Canada’s National Women’s Team during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Sandy’s dedication, passion, and contributions to the sport of volleyball have been recognized with her inductions into the Halls of Fame of both Volleyball BC and Volleyball Canada.

As a ProMOTION Plus In Her Footsteps Honouree, Sandy has also been recognized for her significant contributions to providing opportunities for women and girls in physical activity and sport in BC. Sandy continues to be an ardent supporter of women’s athletics, women in coaching, and UBC women’s volleyball.

The UBC Women’s Volleyball program has been named the most successful U SPORTS program in the last 20 years, with more National Championship appearances and medals than any other program in the country, including its most recent National Championship in 2019. With your generous contribution we can continue to support student-athletes on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
