UBC Dentistry’s first patient clinic was based in a mobile trailer, parked on campus at Point Grey. The faculty has come a long way since 1966, but for many people in the province, dental health care remains inaccessible. Provincially, the faculty has a range of community outreach programs covering a wide demographic in marginalized communities—including children, seniors, new Canadians, the working poor, medically compromised and people challenged with drug and alcohol problems—but there is always more we can do.
The UBC Mobile Community Dental Clinic will be the next important step in the faculty’s commitment to community outreach. In addition, the clinic will also provide a valuable learning opportunity for UBC Dentistry students and graduate students, who will work under the supervision of faculty members. Here they will develop their sense of social responsibility in a rewarding educational environment.
So this year, please “get on board” with UBC Dentistry by making a donation to the UBC Mobile Community Dental Clinic. With your support, we will load up our dental expertise and hit the road to answer the dental needs of people across BC. Your gift will help to increase the accessibility of oral health care and education for marginalized and at-risk patient communities throughout the Lower Mainland and in BC. The clinic won’t be able to leave the parking lot without you!
