Iranian Student Memorial Award

Iranian Student Memorial Award

The University of British Columbia joins the rest of Canada in mourning the loss of all of those who perished aboard flight PS752, including four members of our own community. To honour their legacy, UBC has joined members of the Iranian-Canadian community in establishing the Iranian Student Memorial Award. This fund will provide awards annually to students in memory of those lost to this tragedy.

About This Project

Many members of the UBC community were deeply affected by this tragedy. We wish to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, including Dr. Mehran Abtahi, Niloofar Razzaghi, Zeynab Asadi Lari and Mohammadhossein Asadi Lari.

  • Mehran joined UBC in October of last year as a postdoctoral research fellow in the department of civil engineering
  • Niloofar graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Math in May, 2010 and a Bachelor of Education in November, 2018
  • Zeynab was enrolled at UBC in 2016 in the BSc program, with a biology major
  • Mohammadhossein graduated in 2018 with a BSc in cellular, anatomical and physiological sciences with honours standing

“We hope that this new Iranian Student Memorial Award will help us to memorialize those we lost by providing new opportunities for students to flourish and succeed here at UBC.”

UBC President and Vice-Chancellor Santa J. Ono
