Deborah has a passion for education. During her time at UBCO, Deborah established The Poppy Irvine Award in honour of her aunt, whose contributions to her education made it possible for Deborah to attend university; the first in her family to do so.
Every student needs an increased level of self-confidence, a sense of accomplishment and respect among their peer group. A gift to Poppy’s Award will not only help honour Deborah’s contributions but will also help young scholars at UBC Okanagan become strong and courageous as they navigate their university journey. Boost their confidence and reward their effort by making a gift to grow a spirit of learning within them!
We are committed to retaining and rewarding talented undergraduate students and to ensuring that third- or fourth-year students at UBC’s Okanagan campus have access to the best university education possible. Poppy’s Award helps us reward hard work and tenacity.
As Deborah steps down as Deputy Vice Chancellor and Principal of UBC’s Okanagan campus on June 30, 2020, please help us honour her contributions to the campus and community by making a gift to Poppy’s Award
“I am so grateful to have had the privilege to study at UBCO and to receive the Poppy Irvine Award. I have been solely responsible for paying for my university education and this funding helps ease the burden of student debt that I will have to face once I graduate from this program. Every bit counts, so thank you!”
