Message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal

In 2005, the University of British Columbia made a bold commitment to the future of the Okanagan and the province by establishing a brand new UBC campus. Today, UBC Okanagan is a thriving centre of transformative student learning and ground-breaking research. The first ten years in the Okanagan was a time of foundation-setting and rapid growth for the University. As UBC Okanagan enters its second decade, we reflect on the many important achievements and innovations realized together, thanks to outstanding community support. But ten years is merely a nanosecond in the life of a great university. UBC Okanagan has big plans for the future — and we can’t get there alone. The future of UBC Okanagan and the communities it serves are inextricably linked. With your support, the University enriches our social and cultural vibrancy and enhances the region’s long-term economic sustainability. Most importantly, your generosity ensures the best and brightest students can realize their highest ambitions right here in the Okanagan. Indeed, gifts to the University are investments in our collective future. The new plan for the development of the campus offers a tremendously exciting view of what UBC Okanagan will look like in the coming years. Together with the self-assured aspirations recently set out by the entire campus community, they offer a fresh set of challenges and ambitions to which we turn our attention. Universities are places of big ideas; they are the places where ideas begin and flourish. The big ideas at UBC are what attract students, faculty, and staff from all over the world to the University and the Okanagan. I invite you to join us in the pursuit of big ideas. Together, we can transform our region and the world.
