Support UBC’s finest student athletes

With your support, funds raised through the breakfast, enable UBC student athletes to compete at the highest level. Scholarship monies made possible by you through the ZLC Millennium Scholarship Breakfast help inspire the best athletes to choose UBC – both for its academics and its renowned coaching staff. What impact does it have?

In the 2015-16 season, the Thunderbirds won three CIS championships and six Canada West titles! Women’s Soccer won the University’s 100th Championship in our Centennial year; Men’s Rugby captured their second consecutive Rounsefell Cup to cap an unbeaten season; and Men’s Football won the Vanier Cup and were recognized as Sport BC’s Team of the Year! On top of all this, 136 student athletes at UBC were named Academic All-Canadians for excelling in both their course work and their athletic endeavours. As well, this year 30 UBC current and former athletes represented Canada at the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

Monies from ticket purchases go directly to the sport of your choice with the University providing matching funds. Athletic endowments give UBC athletes the resources to realize their athletic and academic goals, now and for decades to come.

Your support of the ZLC Millennium Scholarship Breakfast for the past 18 years is an important legacy to UBC student athletes, and one which the university has been pleased to support with matching funds every year since 2000. I am delighted to be co-hosting such an impressive gathering of UBC alumni and friends, and proud to call myself a Thunderbird. – UBC Santa J. Ono, UBC President and Vice Chancellor

Professor Santa Ono became the 15th President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia on August 15, 2016. A professor of medicine and biology, Professor Ono came to UBC from the University of Cincinnati, where he served as its first Asian-American president. Previously, he held appointments at Emory University as the Senior Vice Provost and Deputy to the Provost. He was recently recognized by the American Council on Education with an award that honours individuals who have demonstrated leadership and commitment on a national level in the advancement of racial and ethnic minorities in higher education. Inside Higher Education named him America’s most notable university president in 2015. Professor Ono works tirelessly to enhance the student experience, and is a strong advocate of student health and well-being. He is also a keen sports fan, and already an ardent Thunderbirds supporter.
